This is England

This is England is a film about racism and conflict between cultures. It deals with different stereotypical groups from the 80's and how social problems and troubled childhoods have created serious conflict between these groups. The films has a quite comedic uplifting start as the small buy Shaun befriends a group of skin heads who turn out to be a lot more welcoming than the viewer is expected to assume. I like the way stereotypes are dealt with and how our perceptions of them are changed throughout the film. The film takes a much darker route towards its shocking and disturbing finale where "Combo" played by Stephen Graham lashes out violently against Milky in what appears to be an act of racism, but is more an act of jealously and resentment of how his life didn't turn out as well as Milky's had.
The film contains quite a lot of strong language and some violence, I wanted to find a good clip to show some of its strongest points but many were a bit explicit so here's the trailer:

This is England is one of the best films Ive seen this year, it captures to atmosphere of it setting perfectly and deals with many issues still effecting society in Britain today due to high levels of immigration.
